The pinnacle of the Autumn auction season is the East and South East Asian sale on November 11th.
‘Embracing shadows’ is a sale inspired by the famous essay by Tanizaki Junichiro, showcasing art from the different regions of East and Southeast Asia. The love and appreciation of modest, simple beauty and the tactile texture of natural materials is not limited to Japan. A weave of a bamboo basket, a casting fault on a bronze, or an irregularity of a misfired glaze gives a human touch to an object and space for the nature to teach us to enjoy these perfect imperfections, and humbly acknowledge that we are not the only creators.
We are welcoming consignments until September 12th. For any specific queries regarding Southeast Asian art, please do not hesitate to contact the Head of Department, Beatrice Campi, at beatrice@azcaauctions.com, for anything relating to East Asian art, specifically Japanese material, reach out to Marta Somauroo at marta@azcaauction.com.
