A RARE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN ‘KALEIDOSCOPE’ SILK DRESS
Made in Italy, spring/summer 2011, size IT 38 / EU 36 / UK 6
A highly important dress from Sarah Burton’s debut Spring/Summer 2011 collection for Alexander McQueen. Her first complete collection for the House following the tragic death of Lee Alexander McQueen. The design exemplifies Burton’s masterful fusion of romanticism and theatricality, featuring an exquisitely shaped bodice incorporating the collection’s distinctive skeletal motif, against a black ground with a flowing silk chiffon skirt printed with an intricate foliage design, creating a striking contrast between the rigidity of the embroidered bodice and the movement of the skirt. Drawing inspiration from British folklore, heraldic decoration and traditional craftsmanship, the collection marked a pivotal moment in the history of the House of McQueen and remains one of Burton’s most celebrated early achievements. Made in Italy.
Comparable runway pieces from this collection originally retailed in the high luxury ready-to-wear market, with similar examples commanding prices in excess of £10,000 at the time of release.
Size IT 38 / EU 36 / UK 6
Condition: Condition is good and has been gently worn. There are small professional repairs to the top and bottom of the zip and to a small hole on the hem. The original label has been professionally re-stitched in place after coming loose on one side. Minimal signs of gentle wear consistent with the age and nature of this lot; any notable issues have been carefully described, however it is possible that some minor imperfections may have been overlooked. Prospective buyers are advised to study the photographs carefully and are welcome to request further information prior to bidding.
