Ottoman Turkey and Balkans, Eastern Provinces, late 18th - 19th century
With a tapering, straight, single-edged wootz steel blade, with a plain parcel-gilt forte, a carved beaded agate hilt, and a typical Ottoman Balkan engraved, chased and ring-punched parcel-gilt sheath, embellished with fish-scale pattern and a sea monster motif on the tip, and rosette sprays and scrolling meanders on the rest of the surface.
