Possibly Istanbul or Trabzon, Ottoman Turkey, mid to late 19th century
Of typical U-like shape, with rounded sides and a flat, narrow hinged lid at the top, the front, lid and sides decorated with filigree scrollwork and applied ornaments like crescent and star plaques, floral roundels, diamond-shaped tesserae and bubble clusters, the reverse with a square belt hook.
