AN ISLAMIC CARNELIAN-SET GOLD RING
Possibly Seljuk Anatolia or Central Asia, 12th century
With a tapering, rounded shank made of gold, most probably 22ct (unmarked), the head set with a rectangular, engraved carnelian bead in a high-collet mount enhanced with a line of granulation running around its profile, the carnelian bead engraved with a single line of undeciphered Kufic script and an auspicious star underneath it.
