China, six-character Daoguang mark and of the period (1821 — 1850)
The flared body resting on a short foot rising to a gently everted rim, finely painted with bitter melon vines coiling around bamboo shoots and issuing pale yellow blossoms, foliage and fruit, with pink butterflies fluttering above, the design extending on to the interior of the bowl, the cover similarly painted, both the bowl and cover with underglaze blue six-character Daoguang seal marks.
