A MOULDED POTTERY TILE WITH SQUARE KUFIC CALLIGRAPHY
Possibly Central Asia or India, late 19th century
Of square shape, with sloping, stepped edges, painted in reddish brown and blue on a white slip-covered red earthenware body, decorated with an intricate square Kufic calligraphic composition in the centre reading the Arabic words Allah and Al-Mulk, possibly a reference to the 67th chapter (sura) of the Qur'an.
