A NEAR PAIR OF INDIAN PARCEL-GILT EMBOSSED SILVER ROSEWATER SPRINKLERS (GULABPASH)
Lucknow, Awadh (Oudh), Northern India, 18th - 19th century
Each of typical pyriform shape, with a globular body with chased diagonal ribs, resting on a splayed, circular foot, rising to a tall, tapering neck with a pierced flower head at the top, embossed with two overlapping horizontal registers of fleshy palmettes around the shoulders, a grid of layered, rounded leaves at the base of the neck reminiscent of fish-scale pattern, and a spiralling motif along the stem, the décor and shape typical of Northern Indian courtly productions.
The smaller sprinkler: 33cm high and 630 grams
The larger sprinkler: 35.5cm high and 669 grams
