The Submariner Ref. 1680 was the first Submariner model to feature a date complication with the iconic Cyclops lens magnifying the date display. This addition enhanced the functionality of the watch for professional divers and everyday wearers alike, cementing the Submariner’s reputation as both a tool watch and a luxury timepiece.

The black dial with its luminescent hour markers and hands ensures excellent legibility, even in low-light or underwater conditions. However, it is the red “Submariner” text that elevates this watch to legendary status. Rolex produced the red text versions, also known as Single Red Submariner, between approximately 1969 and 1973, after which the text was changed to white. The combination of the vibrant red lettering and the iconic dive watch design has made these early models exceptionally desirable among collectors.
