A PAIR OF LARGE VIETNAMESE GLAZED POTTERY 'LION DOGS' ROOF TILES
Mid 19th century
Each with a ferocious expression and a wide grin exposing long fangs, biting on a billowing ribbon decorated with flowerheads, their faces with bulging eyes, large ears, bushy eyebrows and mane in long strands, the female resting her paw on a cub, the male on a ball, all decorated in turquoise, cobalt, white and amber glaze.

A very similar pairs of roof tiles decorate the roofs of the Binh Thuy Temple in Can Tho city in Southern Vietnam, overlooking the Hau River, Mekong's major tributary.
