A NIELLO AND SILVER SCENT BOTTLE AND AMULET
Seljuk Anatolia or Central Asia, 12th - 13th century
Comprising a miniature, drop-shaped scent or essential oil bottle, with a flared neck and gently everted rim, sloping fleshy volutes on the shoulders and a niello strapwork medallion on each side of the body; and a talismanic scroll container, used as amulet, of faceted cylindrical shape, the elongated hexagonal container decorated with two pseudo-Kufic calligraphic bands near the hanging hoops, fretwork around the edges, and a parcel-gilt diamond-shaped empty cartouche in the centre of the body.
