Ilkhanid Iran, second half 13th - early 14th century
Each hexagonal tile varies in size and is finished with a turquoise glaze, featuring overglaze decoration in gilt, red, black, and white outlines. The design includes vegetal sprays radiating from central stylized rosette motifs present on all three tiles. The surface of the larger tile is softly molded, while the decoration on the smaller tiles is raised.
Lajvardina is a ceramic technique from the 13th to 14th centuries in the Ilkhanid Persian era, recognized for its opulent deep blue (lapis lazuli) or turquoise glaze. This technique features intricate patterns painted in red, white, and black enamel, and is significantly enhanced with gold leaf gilding.

The sale brings together a remarkable collection of rare textiles, lacquerwear, woodwork, manuscripts and more. Featuring a 13th century bronze Ayyubid candlestick (lot 29), a monumental Indian silver-overlaid wooden footstool (lot 140) and an Ottoman calligraphic silk lampas panel from the inner covering of the Ka’ba (lot 166).
One further unmissable highlight is the beautifully enamelled 18 carat gold pocket watch by Breguet et Fils, produced for the Ottoman market (lot 148). We are delighted also to present further pieces from the collection of Mr Georges Antaki in this auction, which promises something of interest for all collectors interested in Islamic and Indian art.
