Palestinian artist and educator Samia Halaby was born in Jerusalem in 1936 during the British Mandate and fled to Lebanon during the 1948 Nakba. Known for her abstract works often inspired by Palestinian nature, she has also incorporated computer-based kinetic art into her oeuvre. Halaby served as an associate professor at the Yale School of Art from 1972 to 1982, becoming the first woman to hold this position. Today, she is recognized as a pioneer of Arab abstract painting and computer-generated art, advocating for Palestinian rights through both her art and writing. She currently lives and works in New York.
