FOUR TUNISIAN POLYCHROME-PAINTED CUERDA SECA POTTERY TILES
Tunisia, North Africa, second half 19th century

A set of four square pottery tiles, each painted in cobalt blue, emerald green, turquoise, and bright yellow with black outlines on white, together forming a bold symmetrical arabesque design composed of sweeping saz leaves, stylised palmettes, and round rosette blossoms, the composition centered on a large cusped boteh or paisley-like cartouche, the design further enriched by a network of curling tendrils and scattered floral elements, edges unglazed, the reverse plain, typical of the Tunis region’s ceramic production in the later Ottoman period.

Each tile approximately 15cm x 15cm
