Comprising two elaborate Turkmen necklaces, each with lobed parcel-gilt silver pendants inset with polished, table-cut carnelians, attached to multiple strands of silver chainlets on either ends, with stylised foliate and rosette-like links, both examples with their original fastening chains, exemplifying traditional Turkmen jewelry craftsmanship, the carnelian stones traditionally believed to have protective properties and used in amulets and ceremonial adornment indicating the possible function of these accessories.
Respectively 77cm and 85cm long

Provenance: purchased by the present vendor's family when stationed at the Foreign Office in Tehran, Iran, from 1970 until 1972, during a trip to Turkmenistan and Samarkand.
