Possibly Bundi, Rajasthan, North-Western India, 19th century

Opaque pigments and white wash heightened with gold on wove paper, depicting a lonely nayika (female heroine) leaning against a willow tree, holding one of the branches in her hand, in the latter a white flower garland, next to her a red-headed white heron, the composition usually associated with Sarang Ragini, a recurrent iconography in Deccani paintings, especially from the school of Hyderabad, the reverse with numerals in pencil, set on a cardboard mount.

The folio 14.8cm x 10.2cm, 27cm x 23.5cm including the mount
