Crescent-shaped, the carved tortoiseshell body fitted at the top with a parcel-gilt mount decorated with repoussé and chased vegetal scrolls and lotus flowers in high relief, bordered by a beaded edge.

11cm x 6cm

This type of luxury comb was commonly used by women in the Malay Archipelago and Indonesia, often worn at the back of the head for ceremonial or formal attire. For another similar hair comb, attributed to Sri Lanka, please see Chiswick Auctions, 29 April 2022, lot 235.
