Iran, the central field second half 17th century, the borders circa 1840s – 1880s
Of rectangular shape, the central field woven with a repeating diamond lattice enclosing stylised floral bouquets in gilt and polychrome silk thread, typical of Safavid weaving in the later 17th to early 18th century, surrounded by later borders of Qajar-period silk brocade decorated with large boteh (paisley) motifs and stylised floral sprays in deep blue and red, a striking example of the re-use and framing of earlier luxury Safavid textiles within 19th-century Qajar households.
