A NISHAPUR GLAZED POTTERY BOWL
Iran, 10th century
Glazed pottery bowl sitting on a short ring base with a flaring rim, and on the interior a black outlined bird with a small crest on its head. Filled in with yellow and green slip paint, then coated with with thin clear glaze, a band with linked chains circumvents the interior wall under the rim. The exterior decorated in leaf motifs with black lines in alternating colours of yellow and blue. The colours typical of Nishapur buffware from this period.
