Born in Sidon, Lebanon in 1944, Samia Osseiran began her artistic career in 1965 at the Beirut College for Women where she studied fine art. She then received her MFA from the Pius XII Institute in Florence. Following her brother's untimely death in 1972, Jounblat first utilised a black and white colour palette, which she would return to at numerous points throughout her career. In 1974, Jounblat moved to Tokyo on a scholarship to study graphic design at the University of Fine Arts. Upon her return to Lebanon in 1977, Osseiran set up Artisana of Saida, which still operates today.
