Safavid Iran, 16-17th century
The manuscript features Persian text written in 19 lines of black nasta'liq script on paper. The text reads: Jāmī’s, Haft Awrang (Seven Thrones), Tuhfat Al-Aḥrār (the Gift of the Noble), Section 10. The margins are adorned with intricate floral motifs, while the borders showcase elegantly designed trees, richly detailed with abundant gold-painted foliage and figural representations. Interestingly, the text describing the Prophet's miracle does not seem to align with the miniature, which likely illustrates the story of Youssef and Zulaikha instead, suggesting that the leaves may have been assembled together after initial production. The couple is depicted seated alongside two attendants, with four niches on each side containing other figures. Overall, the composition is in very good condition.

We are excited to present our Islamic and Indian Art Auction.
The sale brings together a remarkable collection of rare textiles, lacquerwear, woodwork, manuscripts and more. Featuring a 13th century bronze Ayyubid candlestick (lot 29), a monumental Indian silver-overlaid wooden footstool (lot 140) and an Ottoman calligraphic silk lampas panel from the inner covering of the Ka’ba (lot 166).
One further unmissable highlight is the beautifully enamelled 18 carat gold pocket watch by Breguet et Fils, produced for the Ottoman market (lot 148). We are delighted also to present further pieces from the collection of Mr Georges Antaki in this auction, which promises something of interest for all collectors interested in Islamic and Indian art.
