A CHINESE CANTON EMBROIDERED SILK SHAWL IN A LACQUER BOX

Qing Dynasty, circa 1830

The white silk shawl finely embroidered with blossoms and foliage, with a wide fringe of talssels, contained in a silk box painted with a Chinese lady in an interior reading a book, within a black lacquer box decorated with figures in a garden bordered with floral scrolls and endless knots in gilt, together with a handwritten note reading:
