Introduced in 1955 for Pan Am pilots, the Rolex GMT-Master was designed to track multiple time zones, cementing its place in the world of professional tool watches. The Ref. 1675, introduced in 1959 and produced until 1980, remains one of the most iconic references in the GMT-Master lineage, and the “Pepsi” bezel—with its bold red and blue colors—has become one of the most recognizable features in horology.

This 1968 Rolex GMT-Master Ref. 1675 is a highly collectible example, showcasing the timeless “Pepsi” bezel alongside classic Rolex features.

The defining feature of this watch is its red and blue aluminum bezel, known affectionately as the “Pepsi” bezel. The red portion represents daylight hours, while the blue section denotes nighttime, allowing travelers to easily distinguish between day and night in a second time zone. The bidirectional rotating bezel enables quick adjustments, making it both functional and visually striking.

Over time, the aluminum insert often develops a pleasing patina or fade, giving each “Pepsi” GMT a unique character. This example from 1968 has a bezel that remains in excellent condition, with vivid colors that retain their vintage appeal.

This model features the sought-after matte black dial with luminous hour markers and the classic Mercedes hands. The luminous material has aged gracefully, taking on a warm patina that enhances the vintage aesthetic of the watch. The red 24-hour hand—designed to track a second time zone—is a hallmark of the GMT-Master and adds a pop of color that complements the vibrant bezel.

The Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock magnifies the date display, a signature element of Rolex design that improves readability without detracting from the overall balance of the dial.
