TWO OTTOMAN RELIGIOUS MANUSCRIPTS INCLUDING RITUALS OF PILGRIMAGE AND VIRTUES OF RAMADAN
Ottoman Lands, dated 1099 AH (1687 AD) and 1115 AH (1703 AD)
Including a treatise entitled Manasik Al-Hajj (Rituals of the Pilgrimage), authored by Shaykh Sinan Al-Rumi of Mecca and copied by Abdul Ghaneen Abdul Khayem Al Quraishi in 1099 AH. Arabic and Turkish manuscript on paper, written in naskh script in black ink, with significant words rubricated in red.
The second, entitled Fadail Shahr Ramadan (The Virtues of the Month of Ramadan), by Sinan Efendi, deals with the merits of fasting and was copied by Khaled Bin Mohammad Bin Ibrahim Al-Dimi before 1115 AH (1703 AD), as stated in a note commemorating the transition of power between Sultan Mustafa II and his brother Ahmed III (29 December 1703 AD). Turkish and Arabic manuscript on paper, comprising 76 folios (154 pages), with 19 lines per page, written in naskh script in black ink; titles and significant words in red. The writing frame (jadwal) is ruled in red. Catchwords and marginal annotations throughout.

We are excited to present our Islamic and Indian Art Auction.
The sale brings together a remarkable collection of rare textiles, lacquerwear, woodwork, manuscripts and more. Featuring a 13th century bronze Ayyubid candlestick (lot 29), a monumental Indian silver-overlaid wooden footstool (lot 140) and an Ottoman calligraphic silk lampas panel from the inner covering of the Ka’ba (lot 166).
One further unmissable highlight is the beautifully enamelled 18 carat gold pocket watch by Breguet et Fils, produced for the Ottoman market (lot 148). We are delighted also to present further pieces from the collection of Mr Georges Antaki in this auction, which promises something of interest for all collectors interested in Islamic and Indian art.
