Arabic manuscript on paper, comprising 204 leaves (400 pages). Approximately 17 lines to the page, written in black naskh script, with significant words and underlining in red. Extensive marginal and interlinear notes and commentary. Unbound but fitted with a modern leather cover with wrap. The colophon informs that this copy was written by Hafez Bin Abdullah in the school of Sultan Bayazid in Edirne, Turkey.

Najm Al-Din Al-Katibi Al-Qazwini (d. 1277) was a Persian logician and philosopher belonging to the Shafi'i legal school. He is best known fro being the author of Al-Risalah Al-Shamsiyyah fi Al-Qawaid Al-Mantiqiyya, dedicated to Shams Al-Din. According to Tony Street, the Shamsiyyah is a compact but sophisticated logic text, focusing especially on modal syllogistics and reflecting the development of Avicennian logic. Although initially received with some difficulty, it became a central madrasa textbook through authoritative commentaries, particularly that of Qutb Al-Din Al-Razi, and remained highly influential in the teaching of Islamic logic for centuries (Tony Street, The Oxford Handbook of Islamic Philosophy, ed. Khaled El-Rouayheb and Sabine Schmidtke (Oxford: OUP, 2016), pp. 348–374). This text is included in various miscellaneous manuscripts hold in Western collections, including three from the 17th-18th century (MS. Turk. e. 42 and MS. Arab. d. 245 at the Bodleian Library, Oxford University and Gg. 6.38 at the Cambridge University Library).
