Each depicting characters from Chinese folklore and literature, including scholar, farmer, fishman and woodcutter, with blue, white and brown glaze decorating their robes, the faces left unglazed, together with a silk box and cover

Provanance: from an English private collection, acquired from Hiroshi Yanagi at Tokyo Gallery, Kyoto in the 1990s.
So called Mud Men is widely used to describe Shiwan ware from kilns located in the Shiwanzhen Subdistrict of the provincial city of Foshan, near Guangzhou, Guangdong.
