We are thrilled to provide a sneak peek into our Modern and Contemporary Middle Eastern Art auction, and to announce that it will take place at Azca this summer.
The sale will center around some of the most important painters of the last century, originating from Iraq, Syria, Palestine and beyond. These include Ismail Fatah (1934 - 2004), Fateh Mouddares (1922 - 1999) and Sliman Mansour (b.1947), whose visionary works speak to their lived experiences in the Middle East and unique artistic points of view.
One of the most significant pieces to feature in the sale is an untitled work painted in 1994, by Palestinian artist Ismail Shammout (1930 – 2006).
Ismail Shammout (Palestinian, 1930 - 2006), Untitled, Palestine, 1994, oil on canvas.
In this stunning work, a central figure of a pregnant woman is embraced by her husband, his hand resting upon the swell of her pregnant stomach as she clutches the Palestinian poppy- known as Shaqa'iq An-Na'man- to her chest. This intimate scene is brought to life by thickly applied oil paint in rich, warm earth tones, and is estimated at £40,000 - £60,000.
We are honoured to provide a space to represent these artists during an exhibition period at 188R Hammsmith Road, and to bring them to the market this summer.
We are excited to share more about this highly important sale in the coming weeks, so stay tuned. If you have any enquiries regarding the sale, reach out to Lama Koubrously at Lama@azcaauctions.com
